5th Workshop of the International Research Coordination Network for Ciliate Biodiversity (IRCN-BC)
July 26, 2016 – July 29, 2016
Workshop Theme: How can we advance integration of the three dimensions of biodiversity: function, taxonomy, and genetics?
Major objectives of the workshop will be:
- addressing the main question from multiple perspectives of the participants through plenary presentations and break-out sessions,
- publication of a written record of the workshop, highlighting the work of the IRCN-BC over the last 5 years,
- discussion of ways to improve representation of undersampled areas in ciliate databases, and
- collection of tropical ciliates from diverse, undersampled habitats on Guam, from coral reefs to carabao guts.
Plenary speakers include Hans-Peter Grossart, Laura Katz, Denis Lynn, Laura Utz, Thomas Weisse, Günther Witzany, and André-Denis Wright.
We are still open to proposals for plenary presentations. Would-be speakers should be prepared to submit a paper addressing the theme question from the perspective of their expertise and contact Dr. Chris Lobban to express interest.
Call for contributed papers
There are contributed paper sessions that can accommodate up to twelve 20-minture oral presentations, and there is ample space for posters. Limited support is available for travel to the workshop, especially for younger researchers. Please go to IRCN-BC.org for information on applying for support, or contact MS Nettie McMiller or Dr. John Clamp.
