Description: Position is a parts of the team working on a project funded by ERC. The project is focused on the investigation of oxymonads – eukaryotes without mitochondria (Karnkowska et al, Curr Biol 2016). Major aims are to disclose their metabolism, particularly FeS cluster synthesis, and to develop tool for their study (axenic cultivation, genetic transformation, RNAi, CRISPR/Cas9). Furthermore, we plan to examine other potential amitochondriates (Pelomyxa, Retortamonas) and to test the possibilities of mitochondrial knock-outs in selected protists with very simple mitochondria (Entamoeba, Giardia). The work will be carried out in the institute BIOCEV (www.biocev.eu) at the outskirts of Prague, Czech Republic.
Qualification in cell biology (cell fractionation, immunofluorescence, genetic transformation, RNAi, immunolocalisation, immunoprecipitation, two-hybrid systems), cultivation techniques or genomics (single cell isolation, NGS library preparations, data assembly, genome annotation, methods of comparative genomics) is advantage but enthusiasm and invention are necessary conditions.
