Protistology Newsletter logotype
Issue 3: June 2025
Dear Protistologists,

Welcome to the third issue of our newsletter — the final issue under the presidency of Sina Adl, and the last before our 2025 Annual Business Meeting.

The work of the Executive Committee was finalized during our annual meeting, held online on May 22, 2025. During this meeting, the Committee also approved the Society’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year, starting July 1, 2025.

The Nominating Committee has completed its work, and we are now ready to conduct the 2025 elections. In this issue, we are pleased to introduce all the candidates. The election will begin on June 11, will be conducted electronically, and the results will be announced during the Business Meeting.

Of course, we haven’t forgotten the scientific content. This issue highlights recent protistology papers published in top journals, protistology-related news, and the second part of Gaytha Langlois’ article, “Women Protistologists Who Set the Stage for Today’s Successes.”

Our Member Spotlight features Patrick Keeling, ISOP Past President (2022–2023) and a leading figure in the field today.

We’re looking forward to seeing you very soon in Seoul! And if you’re wondering where we’ll be meeting in 2026 — look inside this newsletter for the first details. It’s time to start thinking about packing for Prague, Czech Republic, where we’ll gather next April. We can’t wait to see you there.

I would also like to thank everyone who contributed to the preparation of this issue — namely Donna Huber, Gaytha Langlois, Anthony Bonacolta, Lilly Hehenberger, Avelina Espinosa, and Sina Adl.

Warm regards,

Tomáš Pánek, editor

Anthony Bonacolta interviews past ISOP president, Patrick Keeling. They discuss the major challenges facing science today, the importance of storytelling in protistology, and Patrick’s experience with his long-running undergraduate protistology course.
